Key Job Purpose

The main purpose of the role is to ensure the effective, efficient and safe operation of blower and filler machines to achieve maximum production output according to agreed production targets.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining quality, safety and hygiene standards throughout production.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and Start Machines

• Prepare machines for production.
• Ensure proper machine start-up procedures are followed.
• Ensure CIP (Clean-in-Place) and machine start-ups are completed correctly and within the required time.
• Coordinate with the syrup room during machine start-up, batch changes and shutdowns.

Operate Machines Safely

• Operate blower and filler machines while observing safety and hygiene requirements.
• Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) during production.
• Ensure machines operate efficiently and according to production requirements.

Manage Packaging Materials

• Ensure packaging materials such as caps and preforms are available before and during production.
• Monitor material usage throughout the production process.
• Reconcile material usage against production output after every shift.

Monitor Production and Wastage

• Monitor and manage production wastage.
• Promote efficient use of production materials.
• Record operational data during production.
• Monitor equipment performance on an hourly basis.

Machine Maintenance

The operator will perform scheduled maintenance activities, including:

• Daily maintenance.
• Weekly maintenance.
• Monthly maintenance.
• Machine lubrication.

Proper maintenance records must also be maintained.

Troubleshoot Machine Problems

• Troubleshoot machine faults.
• Report machine breakdowns to the Production Supervisor.
• Immediately communicate abnormal machine behaviour or equipment issues.
• Support efforts to maintain continuous and efficient production.

Maintain Cleanliness and Hygiene

• Maintain cleanliness of machines at all times.
• Keep surrounding work areas clean.
• Ensure machine change parts are properly stored and kept clean.
• Switch off machines and conveyors when they are not in use.

Train and Support Other Operators

The successful candidate will also:

• Train other machine operators.
• Support colleagues to improve machine operation and production efficiency.
• Work as part of a team while maintaining professional standards.

Other Responsibilities

The employee will perform other duties assigned by the supervisor in line with production objectives.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
• VETA Level 3 certification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar position.
• Experience working with Krones, Sidel or KHS machines is highly preferred.
• Previous experience in the beverage manufacturing industry is an added advantage.
• Strong technical and troubleshooting skills.
